Raisin In the Sun,The Film

The film version of Raisin In The Sun definitely lived up to the scripted version of the play. You are able to see the visual aspects of emotion that may not be as clear in the book. This helped me to get a finer understanding of certain elements in the play. There were also some scenes that stuck out to me. In the opening scene Ruth is so stern with Travis, and you pick up her frustration immediately. However, they throw humor into the mix by showing Travis falling back asleep even after his mother wakes him. This tough love is witnessd again when Ruth refuses to give Travis the fifty cents, and as he trys to storm out the house, she uses innocent humor to soften him up, and ultimately show how much she cares. Right after this, Walter comes in and gives Travis that money they do not have. He was so proud to give him this money and shows how much he cares and wants the best for his son. The film was also cinematic. Unlike the scripted play, where you have continuous breaks, the story line just flows, at a rather fast pace.
