There are a few similarities between Bluebeard and Frida, and one main contradiction. Both stories take place during the same time period, 1920's - 1950's more or less. They lived during WWII but participated in different ways. Rabo served in the military and Frida helped a refugee that fled to Mexico. Painting is the main thing they have in common. The big contradiction? Bluebeard is a bibliographical fiction and Frida is a true story.
After reading some articles about Frida Kahlo, I understood the scene in the movie where Diego's ex wife has that drunken out burst during the wedding. She says Diego traded her legs for Frida's legs, then tried to pull up Frida's dress as she fought to avoid anyone from seeing her legs. At the time I didn't see much about the scene, except a jealous ex wife. But, apparently Frida had contracted polio when she was a child, which caused her right leg to grow thinner than her left leg. Now the long colorful dresses and pants she wears makes sense.
The movie was great. Loved seeing all the famous actors. They made the movie that much better. I definitely enjoyed the way the director included the paintings to help tell the story. Thanks, Professor!
