A Raisin in the Sun Movie Verison

This week we watched a raisin in the sun during class and had a whole class discussion at the end of the movie on Thursday. I really enjoyed it. Hearing everyones personal opinions of how they in-visioned the characters and their take on the film was interesting to hear. In my opionon the characters fit very well , & they all did a great job at trying to bring their character to life. I enjoyed the movie alot. I thought i'd be bored and be secretly texting or sleeping the whole time but even though i did check my phone from time to time the movie really held my attention. I appreciated the fact that the movie was so close to the scripted play version. One of my expectations of the film was that it would probably be very different from the book but not much was different.

Why does Ruth want to move so badly?
I believe Ruth wants to move so badly because she doesn't want to have to raise another child in such a cramped space. She wants better for her family and herself. She feels like they deserve it and they were so close to having it she didn't want it to be ripped right out of her hands. She said she'd work 20 hours a day with her baby strapped to her back if she had to. That shows how dedicated she is to wanting to move. She'd do anything to move.

What makes this cinematic (as opposed to a filmed play)?
The biggest thing that made this film cinematic is the background. Its constantly being changed the whole movie isn't in one place and its always moving forward with no breaks in a play if they needed to change the back drop or place they would need a intermission. A movie doesnt need that. Some scenes we're even in a bar outside the house. or in a cab outside the new house. It doesn't necessarily have to stay still like it would if you just simply filmed a play. And also if your filming a play you only get one shot at it. If the actors mess up there's no re-dos. But a film you'd be watching the best takes.
