Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 102 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (and to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum. You are required to write AT LEAST two paragraphs a week (in one or more postings).

Raisin in the Sun (Movie/ Questions)
What made this film cinematic instead of a filmed play was that the some scenes took place outdoors that wouldn't be possible if it were a filmed play. Also in a cinematic they get te best cuts out off all the shots filmed during the making so everyone gets the best of what was filmed rather than the live performance that's done in a filmed play where it can be very possible for the actors to mess up or not give their best performance. The house signifies the American dream that most immigrants have when coming to America. It means stepping up in the social ladder that most people feel when they can call something their own, like a house. That is what the Younger family strived for. They wanted to be homeowners and walk on what they can call their own and have place to bring up their children with the white picket fence and dog. Its relevant to the current economic situation because many people are going through hard times, many people have lost their homes and just strive to have the things that the Younger family wanted, something to call their own and raise their family without struggle. This is the same reason why Ruth wanted her own house so badly, to fulfill the American dream. She wanted to raise Travis differently than she has lived. I believe that Lidner said "you people" to show that he's not on the same level as them. He said that as a segregation from white and black. In the 50's, whites didnt consider blacks as equals so they tried to keep them away from their neighborhoods and even distinguished them in their vocabulary. I beleive that Walter Lee has a point when he says their are "takers" and "tooken" because in todays world we use winners and losers or survival of the fittest. There will always be those who prey on the weak and tak from the taken. We dont live in a world where theres economic equality throughout. Unfortunantly, there are people who suffer on account of others greed.
